Are you ready to become a taxi driver?

Buckle up, we have a few steps to get you ready to roll.

  • Must be a minimum of 25 years of age.
  • Possess a valid class 1, 2, or 4 licence.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of claims history to the present application date.
    • Must show NO MORE than a 60-day lapse of coverage.
    • Canadian insurance coverage is the ONLY history that will be considered.

If you meet the above requirements, please proceed to the following steps.

Alberta Driver’s License: Class 1, 2, or 4 required. For more information on acquiring a license, please visit the Government of Alberta website here.

Social Insurance Number: Only a government-issued document with this number and your name displayed will be accepted.

GST Number: If you don’t have a GST number, please get in touch with the CRA.

Claims Experience Letter(s): Provide a minimum of three (3) years of claims history with no gaps in coverage.

  • From your Insurance Company and/or Previous Employer
  • Canadian insurance coverage is the ONLY history that will be considered.

Current Five (5) Year Alberta Driver’s Abstract:

  • Not dated more than 30 days old.
  • It cannot contain any of the following violations:
  • Driving while intoxicated/impaired.
  • Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Driving while under suspension.
  • Careless driving, or without due care and attention.
  • Must NOT have over 5 current demerits or 4 convictions within the past 3 years.

Police Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector: Not dated more than 90 days old and as per the City of Edmonton, Vehicle for Hire Bylaw.

Completion of Driver Application Form: Work history, at least 5 (five) years that can be confirmed or provided in your resume.

Once you have collected the relevant documents, request a driver application form.

Forms can be submitted to Ashley in Training and Development at our office. After your documentation has been submitted and reviewed, the following steps will be taken for completion:

  • City Knowledge Exam
  • Road Test
  • Courses for new drivers, defensive driving, orientation, and computer training.

When all the steps are completed, you will receive your driver ID and be ready to go.
